How to Avoid Charges of Harassment

Multi-Millions.

There is much in the news today of successful harassment suits in the workplace…and the costs to corporations are in the multi-millions.

How can you avoid having the accusatory finger pointed at your company?

As a Human Resources executive, it is your job to see that company managers are fully educated about what constitutes harassment in the workplace. If you’re having trouble finding the money from company leadership for this training, do a little research. The financial and public relations consequences of a court case can be devastating. Present a few costs of lost suits and the corporate leaders will soon be on board with your plan.

But don’t sell out cheap.

Computer-based training does not hold up as effective. You need face-to-face training by legal experts who have the presentation and facilitation skills necessary to engage the audience and ensure learning. Participants in harassment prevention training need to know how to follow proper procedures.

Implementing a sound education plan will prove that you have put forth a good faith effort to train your managers.
