Do Not Mistake Corporate Compliance for an “Elective”

Even in small organizations, it is essential that there be a process to ensure corporate compliance…the risk of non-compliance is too costly and often disastrous. Just consider all the recent news exposing non-compliance in the auto industry. Though car defects were discovered some years ago with their potential for injuries and even fatalities, no reports were made to the government bodies responsible for ensuring public safety. As a result, there will be fines and lawsuits for years to come.

Of course, this example is extreme. But, even for privately held companies, there are no legitimate excuses these days for not complying with regulations. You need to have an expert on hand to filter through the ever-changing laws and see that they are being followed. When there is a breach, you need a consistent and accurate reporting process that may need to include the appropriate authorities.

As for individual employees, you can hire corporate compliance training firms to train your managers to maintain a respectful workplace. This is the best way to avoid harassment complaints and expensive legal costs. Corporate compliance is not an elective…it is mandatory.
