Can You Pass the Corporate Compliance Test?

If you are in charge of the human resource function at your company, it is your responsibility to ensure that the organization is legally compliant. Corporate compliance training professionals recommend that you conduct an annual audit of four different areas of employment.

Here is where you should focus your examination:
  1. Safety. Are OSHA standards being followed? Are you doing all you can to protect the health and well-being of your employees and your customers?
  2. Policies and Procedures. Does your employee handbook support the laws that influence employment? Does it spell out approved leaves, unemployment and health benefits, etc.?
  3. Recruiting and Interviewing. Are your recruiters and interviewers following acceptable practices? Do the questions on your job applications reflect what is legally allowed? Are reference checks handled according to proper procedures?
  4. Hiring. And, once an offer letter is tendered, are your new employees fully apprised of company policies, e.g., the prohibition of discrimination and how to handle harassment issues?
Be sure you and your company can pass the corporate compliance test, year after year.
